Mrs. Mildred Oxendine Hunt, 89, born on May 13, 1935 in Fairmont, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 7, 2025, at Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg, North Carolina. She lived a life rooted in love, faith, and family. She is preceded in death by her parents: Mr. Wheeler Oxendine and Mrs. Ruby Oxendine; siblings Dee Oxendine, Robert Oxendine, and Mary “Carol” Margaret Chichura and grandchildren: John and Derrick.
Mrs. Mildred is survived by her husband of 70 years, Mr. Nathen Hails Hunt; her children: Mrs. Reda (Guru) Murthy of Bemidji, MN; Mr. Nathan (Evelyn) Hunt of Red Springs, NC; Mrs. Erika (Ervin) Locklear of San Antonio, TX; Mr. Rozell (Hal) Blackmore of Supply, NC; Mr. David (Lisa) Hunt of Fayetteville, NC; Mrs. Cassina Hunt (Mike) of Pinehurst, NC; Mr. Charles (Sandra) Hunt of Fairmont, NC; and Mr. Samuel Hunt of Jacksonville, FL; her siblings, Mr. Osteen, Mr. Anver, Mr. Linwood (Noemi) and Ms. Linda Reynolds; her grandchildren: Darren, Bobbie, Ashley, Natasha, Erick, Coree, Nathan, Justin, Kayla, Johnathon, Joseph, Matthew, Kimberly, Kirkland, Zachary, Clay, Bernadette and Alex; great-grandchildren; great-great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
Mrs. Mildred retired from Purnell Swett High School and lived with her husband in Maxton, North Carolina. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her kindness, warmth, and selfless nature touched all who knew her. A pillar of strength and compassion, she always gave more than she took, leaving behind countless cherished memories and an enduring legacy of love and wisdom.
Though she is no longer with us, Mildred’s legacy of love and kindness will forever live on in the hearts of those she so deeply touched.
A service to honor and celebrate her remarkable life will be held at White Hill Baptist Church in Maxton, NC on Tuesday, March 11 at 2:00 PM, with burial to follow at the Lumbee Memorial Gardens Cemetery (774 Moss Neck Rd, Lumberton, NC). Family and friends are invited to join in visitation at White Hill Baptist Church on Monday, March 10 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
