Mr. Joseph Locklear Jr. is the 4th son of the late Joseph Locklear and Margie Ann Carter Locklear. He was born November 22, 1945 in Robeson County and departed his earthly body for his heavenly home on Sunday July 5, 2026.
Joseph Jr. was preceded in death by his mother and father Margie and Joseph Locklear, a premature brother, and his brothers Jerome Locklear, Benjamin Franklin Locklear, James Selvin Locklear along with a sister Nancy Louise Ragsdale.
Joseph Jr. is survived by a host of family and friends, among them are his 3 brothers Leo Locklear (Yvonne), Tyrone Locklear (Mayon), Ronnie Locklear (Cathy) all of Pembroke. He also has 2 sisters Connie Locklear of Pembroke and Bebe Locklear (Chalmers) of Virginia Beach, Va. Sister-in-laws of his late brothers Martha Jane Locklear wife of the late James Selvin Locklear, and Marnece Locklear wife of the late Benjamin Franklin Locklear who he thought of dearly. He also had a biological son Joseph Howard Locklear of Lumberton. He leaves to cherish his memories, his nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews along with a host of family and friends.
Joseph Jr. left home at the age of 18 and moved to Charlotte, NC. He resided there from 1964-2006 which was “home” until he got sick and needed to move back to Robeson County. He was a master at his profession of sheetrock hanging and finishing where he worked all over the eastern U.S. from up north in Maine all the way down south in Florida. He has always been an avid sports fan up until his last days. He loved watching all sports on his TV in the comfort of his home and if he knew you were a fan he would call to see if you were keeping up with the scores too.
Joseph Jr. didn’t have a driver’s license so he had to always make sure his phone was working properly so he could keep up with his people. In his later years he had a list of names and numbers and he would call them daily just to check on them. Most of his conversations were short but it was a way of showing his love to family and friends. Some of his all-time favorite sayings that he has told us on many occasions are “Time will tell” or “That’s a fact” and “It makes a difference” also “It be’s like that sometimes”. Until we meet again, “We Love You” and we are going to miss those friendly phone calls.
The funeral will be 4 p.m. Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Mt. Airy Baptist Church with the Rev. James Kelvin Locklear officiating. Burial will follow in the Locklear Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.
