Mrs. Hazel was known for her caring heart, strong work ethic and joyful spirit. She was an exceptional babysitter and housekeeper, who lovingly cared for countless children and homes throughout her life. Her kindness, dependability and nurturing nature made her a blessing to many families. For more than 50 years, Hazel was a faithful member of Mt. Airy Baptist Church, where her faith guided her daily life. She enjoyed fellowship with her church family and found strength and comfort in her relationship with the Lord.

Mrs. Hazel found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. She loved shopping, listening to music and spending time on the dance floor with her sisters whenever the opportunity arose. One of her greatest joys was Friday night date nights with her devoted husband, Grady, with whom she shared 60 wonderful years of marriage. Their love story was an example of commitment, friendship and enduring love.

Hazel never missed an opportunity for a ride. If a car was going somewhere, she wanted to be in it, regardless of the destination. She also enjoyed sitting on the porch, talking on the phone with family and friends and keeping up with the people she loved. Above all, Hazel treasured her family. She delighted in spending time with her children, grandchildren and loved ones, creating memories that will be cherished for generations. Her warmth, laughter, wisdom and unconditional love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in the many memories she leaves behind and the lasting impact she made on the lives of so many.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Mt. Airy Baptist Church with the Revs: Kelvin Locklear and Charles Locklear officiating with the burial to follow in the Mt. Airy Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.
