Mrs. Bobby Jean Chavis, 78, of 494 Philadelphus Road, was born September 23, 1938 and went to her Heavenly home on Friday, January 13, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her parents: Mr. Layton & Mrs. Mary Lee Locklear Lowery; a daughter: Mrs. Illya Chavis Lindsey; grandson: Talon Boyd Lindsey and brother: Mr. James Earl Lowery.
The funeral will be 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at Bear Swamp Baptist Church with the Revs: Dr. Tim Chavis, Lindbergh Chavis and Hubbard Lowery officiating. Burial will follow in the Bear Swamp Church Cemetery.
Surviving are her loving husband of 57 years: Mr. Grover Cleveland Chavis; two daughters: Ms. Yonnah Dawn Chavis and Mrs. Espadonsa Jacobs(Steve); a son: Mr. Joshua Yakima Chavis; four grandchildren: Jacoby Wayne Chavis, Tristan Dale Chavis, Steven Luis Jacobs and Meka Ala Jacobs; three great-grandchildren: Jaylen Locklear, Jeston Wayne Chaivs and Nolan Chavis; four brothers: Mr. Robert Lowery, Mr. Albert Lowery(Martha), Mr. Ivory Lowery(Vida), and Rev. Hubbard Lowery(Phyllis); two sisters: Mrs. Sally Lowery Matos(Armando) and Mrs. Leah Lowery(George); three exchange students: Ms. Mariela Lam, Ms. Maria Cano and Ms. Oscar Foncesca and a host of relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. at Bear Swamp Baptist Church.
