Mr. Harley “Doc” Well Oxendine Jr. was born on March 10, 1944 in Robeson County and made his heavenly journey on Monday, March 17, 2025. He is the son of the late Mr. Harley Well Oxendine Sr. and Mrs. Essie Mae Oxendine. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, Mr. Freddie Oxendine and grandson, Cody Teets.
The funeral will be 4 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2025 at Cherokee Chapel Holiness Methodist Church with Bishop Jimmy Locklear officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his children: Ms. Valerie O. Turnmire, Mr. Harley Well Oxendine III (Samantha), Ms. Paula Teets and Ms. Danika Locklear; siblings: Ms. Genette Oxendine, Mr. Bobby Oxendine, Mr. Ronald Oxendine and Mrs. Trenette Deese (Bill); a sister-in-law: Ms. Joyce Oxendine; uncle: Mr. McKinely Jones Jr, (Hazel); aunt: Mrs. Artie M. Jacobs (Bobby); grandchildren: Daniel, Dakota, Harley Brian, Hailey, Darian, Joshua, Jeremiah, Dayla and Derian; great-grandchildren: Cody and Elena; a host of church family and dear friends who visited him often and prayed with him as he struggled in his last months of life.
Throughout his life he worked at Raeford Turkey Plant and North Carolina Department of Correction in Lumberton and Raleigh, NC.
While in his last years of life and because of his mobility issues, Harley struggled to come to church and with his bible in hand he made his way to worship as often as possible. Many times someone would be there to assist him by lending a helping hand.
The family will receive friends from 3-4 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2025 at Cherokee Chapel Holiness Methodist Church.
