MR. HAROLD WAYNE TYNER

Mr. Harold Wayne Tyner, age 77, of 6391 Hwy 72 West, journeyed into eternal peace on Sunday, May 19, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on July 10, 1946, Harold was the cherished son of the late Mr. James Ralph Tyner and Ms. Violet Locklear Tyner.

Harold’s legacy is one of love, service, and dedication. He leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories and an indelible impact on the hearts of those who know him. He is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years: Mrs. Verlene Locklear Tyner; his loving daughters: Mrs. Terra Tyner Jacobs (Jerry) and Mrs. Tonya Tenille Sikes (Roger); his beloved son: Mr.  Lance Tyner (Leslie), as well as nine adoring grandchildren and one precious great-grandchild; his dear sister: Mrs.  Darlene T. Carter (Charles) and a multitude of relatives and friends who will forever hold him close in their hearts.

After graduating from high school in Pembroke, NC, he embarked on a journey to Detroit, Michigan, where he began his career at the Chrysler plant. His path soon led him to a higher calling as he bravely served his country in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War. His courageous service earned him several accolades, including the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Presidential Unit Citation. Harold held the rank of Corporal and served with honor and distinction, both on the battlefield and upon his return home.

Following his military service, Harold transitioned into civilian life, where he continued to excel in various roles. From construction to management positions, Harold’s work ethic and dedication were unmatched. His career journey led him into positions such as a fireproofer, millwright, and assistant plant manager, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of working alongside him.

Mr. Harold always found time to give back to his community. He was a pillar of support as a founding member of organizations such as the Mt. Airy Jaycees, Carolina Country Cruisers, and Mt. Airy Outreach.

In his leisure time, Harold indulged his passion for cars, eventually realizing his dream of operating Tyner’s Used Cars full-time in his retirement years. His love for automobiles was surpassed only by his love for his family and friends. Another favorite enjoyment of his was sitting on the porch with Verlene, coffee in hand, and waving to the passersby.

Mr. Harold Wayne Tyner will be remembered for his infectious laughter, generous spirit, and unwavering devotion to those he held dear. We are eternally grateful that Harold made this commitment to Christ on June 23, 2019. His memory will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who were blessed to have known him.

Though Harold may no longer walk among us, his spirit will live on in the countless lives he touched and the memories he created.

The funeral service will be Thursday, May 23, 2024 at Mt. Airy Baptist Church with Rev. Kelvin Locklear, Keith Long, George Locklear and Bro. Harlie Well Locklear officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. at Mr. Airy Baptist Church.
