Mr. Vernon Steen, 84, of Pembroke, NC departed this life on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at Morrison Manor in Laurinburg, NC surrounded by family. Vernon was born on June 29, 1938 to Mr. Ellard and Mrs. Edith Steen. Vernon was a Logger for 30 plus years alongside his father, “Steens Logging”. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter: Ms. Marlina Steen; brothers: Mr. Larry Steen, Mr. Joseph Steen, and Mr. Ellard Steen Jr.; sisters: Ms. Gloria Jane Locklear and Ms. Carolyn Steen; son-in-law: Mr. Delton Jacobs and the mother of the girls: Ms. Mildred S. Locklear; great-grandsons: Master Adrian Joelyn Martinez and Master Joe Calix Martinez.
The funeral will be 4 p.m. Friday, April 21, 2023 at New Harvest Ministries with Revs. Dwight Deal and Jimmy Strickland officiating. Burial will follow in the Steen Family Cemetery.
Left to cherish his memories are his daughters; Ms. Robin Jacobs of Maxton, Ms. Malissa Steen of St. Pauls, Mrs. Paula K. Locklear (Pie) of Pembroke; granddaughter he raised: Mrs. Jessica K. Hunt (Jamie) of Pembroke; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; sisters: Ms. Pennie Steen, Mrs. Tela Brooks (Craig), Ms. Daphne Moser of Rowland, Ms. Sue Dimery of Pembroke and Ms. Mary Vargas of Massachusetts; brothers: Mr. Hugh Steen (Sandy) of Rowland and Mr. Randle Steen of Maxton and a host of family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 3-4 p.m. Friday, April 21, 2023 at New Harvest Ministries.
