Sgt 1st Class Mitchell Lowry

Sgt 1st Class Mitchell Lowry, 66, of 103 Garden Street, Pembroke, NC, 28372, died peacefully at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center on Monday, March 12, 2018 after a lengthy illness. He is preceded in death by his parents: Mr. Billy Lowry Jr. and Mrs. Minnie Lowry; a nephew: Mr. Billy William Lowry III. The funeral will be 3:00 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2018, at Berea Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in the Berea Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Lowry is survived by his wife of 40 years: Mrs. Rosalind Lowry of the home; 2 daughters: Mrs. Christina Saunders (Ryan) of Greensboro, NC and Mrs. Candace Lowry (Elliott) of Pembroke, NC; 6 grandchildren: Savannah Rose Saunders, Ryan Wayne Saunders Jr. “Jr.” and Summer Anne Saunders of Greensboro, Craig “Eli” Lowry, Callie Michelle Lowry and Cesilie Erin Lowry of Pembroke; 5 siblings: Mrs. Patricia Chavis (Kenneth), Ms. Pamela L. Brooks, Mr. Billy Dexter Lowry “Decky”, Ms. Deana Warriax and Mr. Ricky Lowry (Cindy) all of Pembroke; 1 aunt: Ms. Vester Revels; 1 uncle: Mr. Hubert E. Sampson (Eileen) of Pembroke; and several nieces and nephews. He retired from NC Department of Corrections after 30+ years of service and from the United States Army Reserves 108th Division. He was a long time member of The Kiwanis Club of Pembroke. The family would like to extend thanks and appreciation for the care he received from the staff at the NC State Veteran’s Home, Fayetteville, NC during his illness. Locklear & Son Funeral Home will be handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Berea Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1206 Pembroke, NC and The Kiwanis Club of Pembroke, P.O Box 258 Pembroke, NC 28372. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Locklear & Son Funeral Home.
