MS. SYLVIA ELAINE DEESE

Ms. Sylvia Elaine Deese, 84 of 7024 Hwy 72W Pembroke, NC 28372, went home to be with the Lord on January 30, 2025. She was born in Robeson County on February 29, 1940, to the late Mr. Benford Lowery Sr. and Mrs. Thesia Lowery. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years: Mr. Pernell Deese; sister: Ms. Narva Maynor, a special brother-in-law: Mr. Roy Maynor Jr. and a nephew: Jay Lowry.

The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday, February 2, 2025 at Mt. Airy Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Strickland and Kelvin Locklear officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Ms. Deese was a graduate of Pembroke College and a retired teacher. The majority of her teaching career was with the Public Schools of Robeson County. She was teaching at Red Springs Middle School when she retired.  She also taught Sunday school in the Children’s Division for many years at Mt Airy Baptist Church where she attended her entire life.

The family will receive friends from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. Sunday, February 2, 2025 at Mt. Airy Baptist Church.

She leaves to cherish her memories two daughters: Mrs. Elaine Brewington(Tim) and Mrs. Alisa Freeman(Nelson); four grandchildren: Timothy Conner Brewington, Benjamin Pernell Brewington, Emma Grace Elaine Brewington, and Samuel Cole Brewington; one sister: Mrs. Janice Bryant; a brother-in-law: Mr. Eugene Bryant; one brother: Mr. Benford Lowry Jr.,; a sister-in-law: Mrs. Geraldine Lowry;  a special niece that she and her husband Pernell thought of like a daughter: Ms. Ursula Lowry and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
