Ms. Meta Jones Hughes, 86, of Rowland, NC was born on November 25, 1936 to the late Mr. Willie and Mrs. Lessie Jones. She departed this life on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at home. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband: Mr. Royal “Pete” Oliver Hughes; one son: Mr. Harold Dean; five brothers: Mr. Laddie Jones, Mr. Rosco Jones, Mr. Hoover Jones, Mr. Elairs Jones and Mr. Rosevelt Jones; one sister: Ms. Mertice Locklear; nine grandchildren and a special daughter-in-law: Ms. Faye Quick.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Riverside Independent Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Jones and Matthew Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Anna Church Cemetery.
Ms. Hughes is survived by four sons: Mr. Earl Kamalu, Mr. Tony Childres. Mr. Randy Hill and Mr. Sammie Hill; four daughters: Ms. Nancy Williamson, Ms. Andrea Smith, Ms. Theresa Soles and Ms. Pamela Jacobs; a sister: Ms. Eva Whitt; 17 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews and a special friend: Mr. Jim Hodges.
The family will receive friends from 12-1 p.m. Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Riverside Independent Baptist Church.
