Ms. Hazel Carter, 78, of 277 Lumbee Avenue, journeyed into eternal peace, Friday, February 13, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born March 20, 1947 and was a cherished daughter of the late Mr. Reedy & Mrs. Annie Neal Locklear.
Ms. Hazel’s legacy is one of love, service, and dedication. She is survived by a son: Mr. Wayne Carter(Shelia); two daughters: Mrs. Kim Jacobs(Kevin) and Mrs. Crystal Stueck(Shain), as well as seven adoring grandchildren and three precious great-grandchildren; her two sisters: Mrs. Marnece Locklear and Mrs. Verlene Tyner; a special friend: Mr. Wade Carter and a host of relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by one great-grandchild: Master A.J. Collins; two sisters: Mrs. Shelby Cummings and Mrs. Clara Oxendine and three brothers: Mr. Bobby Locklear, Mr. James S. Locklear and Mr. Robert E. Locklear.
Ms. Hazel was a faithful and dedicated employee of Converse for 31 years until it closed. She then went to school and completed her CNA certification and worked in Home Health Care with Health Keeperz followed by Dignity until her retirement in 2023. Her hobbies were shopping and watching her grandsons play baseball. She also enjoyed spending time with all her grandchildren at the beach. She was also a longtime member of Burnt Samp Baptist Church. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at Burnt Swamp Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Long officiating with the burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.
