Mrs. Zadie Ree Oxendine Demery, 91, of 3028 Union Chapel Road, was born March 14, 1929 and departed this life on Tuesday, February 16, 2021. She is preceded in death by her parents: Mr. & Mrs. Norman Oxendine (Viola); sisters: Mrs. Letha B. Oxendine and Mrs. Recie M. Scott; one brother: Mr. Cleophas Oxendine.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Mt. Airy Church with Revs. Michael Cummings, Steve Strickland and Kelvin Locklear officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Demery leaves to cherish her memory her husband: Mr. Willard Demery of the home; two daughters: Mrs. Viola D. Locklear (Donald) of Matthews, NC and Mrs. Angeline D. McGirt (Dave) of Maxton, NC; three brothers: Mr. Carlos Lee Oxendine, Mr. Cardell Oxendine and Mr. Cladie Oxendine; four grandchildren: Don Bryan, Teresa, Joe and Jake; five great-grandchildren: Hannah, Colby, Chole, Zadie (namesake) and Kenadie.
Mrs. Zadie grew up hard and was blessed with an easy comfortable life in her senior years. She could pick more cucumbers than any one around her. She sacrificed much and many for her daughters and her husband.
The family will receive friends from 12-1:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Locklear & Son Funeral Home.
