MRS. BETTY BROOKS LOCKLEAR

Mrs. Betty Brooks Locklear, 85, of Sunrise Drive, Pembroke was born March 27, 1936 and passed away on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill. She is the daughter of the late Mr. Andrew and Mrs. Mary Brooks She was also preceded in death by six brothers and five sisters. She was the wife of the late Mr. Johnny Locklear. They were married for 57 blessed years.

Mrs. Betty worked in the home until her four children were in public school. She worked for a while at Belk Department store in Lumberton, but found her niche in the daycare setting. She excelled in taking care of infants in the nursery and interacting with the parents. Sometimes she would even take the time to give friendly advice on how to properly care for their child. She was employed at Lela Anne’s Learning Center and Sandy Plains Daycare for more than 20 years. Mrs. Betty was also a devoted servant to the church.  She was committed to doing whatever was needed.  Sunday after Sunday she tirelessly cared for children in the nursery or prepared a meal for a visiting speaker or helped out with VBS.

When Mrs. Betty was not taking care of children, she loved to go shopping.  She especially liked yard sales.  She delighted in buying for children.  Not only for her own grandchildren, but for anyone she thought would benefit.

So sorry for your loss. Miss Betty was a sweetheart and I know the angels are rejoicing to have her. My son had her as a nursery teacher at Lela Ann’s she was such a delightful soul. Praying God gives you comfort during this time.
