Mrs. Bernetha Oxendine Locklear

Mrs. Bernetha Oxendine Locklear, 79, of the Union Chapel Community, Pembroke NC, was born October 10, 1938 and departed this life on Saturday, July 14, 2018 in Laurinburg NC. Mrs. Bernetha was preceded in death by her mother: Ms. Evelyn Grace Sampson and father Mr. Thurman Oxendine; adoptive paternal grandparents: Mr. Daniel Duckery and Mrs. Flora L. Oxendine and her oldest son: Mr. Christopher Lynn Locklear. The funeral will be 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2018, at Union Chapel Community Baptist Church with the Revs: Jimmy Strickland and Brian Oxendine officiating. Burial will follow in the Oxendine Cemetery. Mrs. Bernetha leaves behind her beloved husband of 52 years: Mr. Laney Locklear Sr. of the home; three sons: Mr. Laney “Duke” Locklear Jr. (Karen), Mr. Daniel Locklear, and Mr. Shon Locklear; two daughters: Mrs. Alison Oxendine (James Darrin) and Mrs. LaCinda Oxendine (Peter Duel) all from the Union Chapel Community and 12 grandchildren. She was a special eldest sister to 6 siblings, Mr. Lavern Oxendine, Mr. Charlie Sampson, Ms. Linda Bullard, Ms. Connie Johnson, Ms. Argie Locklear, and Ms. Kathy Sampson. She dearly loved her family and friends and we glory in the knowledge that we will see her again. She earned her High School Diploma from Pembroke High School. She was a member of Union Chapel Community Baptist Church, faithfully visiting the sick and elderly. She provided daycare services out of her home for over 25 years. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday, July 16, 2018, at Locklear & Son Funeral Home.
