Mrs. Berlene Strickland Clark

Mrs. Berlene Strickland Clark, 86, of 89 Midway Road, Rowland, was born April 7, 1930 and transferred her citizenship from earth to Heaven on Thursday, March 30, 2017. Her parents were the late Mr. McKinley & Mrs. Viletter Lowry Strickland. She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years: Mr. Garland Clark; granddaughter: Ms. Shena Rogers; grandson: Mr. Larry Dean Goodman, Jr.; four brothers: Mr. Molan Strickland, Mr. Nathan Strickland, Mr. Paul Clinton “Cookie” Strickland and Mr. Dexter Strickland; four sisters: her twin: Ms. Perlene Strickland, Ms. Edith Steen, Ms. Annie Ruth Brayboy and Ms. Alma Rose Bell.

The funeral will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 2, 2017, at Beulah Baptist Church with the Revs: Roger Adkins and Monford Locklear officiating. Burial will follow in the Beulah Church Cemetery.

Surviving are three sons: Mr. Elton Ray Clark(Lucy) of Maxton, Mr. Roger Clark(Regina) and Mr. Kenneth Clark(Tonya) both of Rowland; five daughters: Ms. Linda Goodman, Ms. Regina Clark, Mrs. Mary Ann Oxendine(Jackie), Mrs. Beverly Locklear(Clayton) and Mrs. Zina Clark Hunt(Larry) all of Rowland; twenty-five grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; three brothers: Mr. Kenny Ray Strickland, Mr. Reginald Strickland, Sr. and Mr. Homer Strickland; four sisters: Ms. Lillie Jane Kalie, Ms. Mary Helen Royal, Ms. Dottie Locklear and Ms. Caffie Little and a host of relatives and friends.

Mrs. Berlene was a faithful member of Beulah Baptist Church for over sixty years. She served as church secretary, treasurer, program director and Sunday school teacher. As the program director, many loved ones in the community have fond memories of the Christmas programs she would direct.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Saturday, April 1, 2017, at Locklear & Son Funeral Home.

Mrs. Berlene was a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, affectionately called “Granny” by the great-grandchildren. She was a woman who truly loved the Lord and showed this through the life she lived daily. As Proverbs 31:28 says, “Her children arise up and call her blessed…..”
