Mr. Winford Lowry

Mr. Winford Lowry, 93, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at home with his family by his side. He was born January 18, 1925 in Pembroke, NC to the late Mr. Montgomery and Mrs. Lillie Maynor Lowry. Mr. Lowry was preceded in death by a son: Mr. Winford Derek Lowry; six brothers: Mr. Marvin Lowry, Mr. Eloise Lowry, Mr. Welton Lowry, Mr. Claudie Lowry, Mr. Barney Lowry and Mr. Dawrie Lowry; three sisters: Ms. Ada Lowry, Ms. Robie Bullard and Ms. Ollice Lockear. The funeral will be 3:00 p.m. Thursday, November 1, 2018, at Sandy Plains United Methodist Church with Revs: Robert Mangum and Dan Blair officiating. Burial will follow in the Sandcutt Cemetery. During his younger years, Mr. Lowry was a faithful and dedicated member of New Hope Church where he served many duties such as Sunday school teacher, treasurer, and groundskeeper. His later years were spent at Sandy Plains UMC remaining a faithful member and enjoying the church and fellowship. Mr. Lowry graduated from Pembroke State College and was a proud member of the first 500 graduates. His teaching career lasted over 40 years in Robeson County; 31 of those years were at Union Elementary School in Rowland. He served as a seventh grade math and science teacher. Leaving to cherish his memory, a loving wife of 69 years: Mrs. Magdalene; two sons: Mr. Ricky (Sonya) of Pembroke and Mr. Stephen Dean (Trina) of Clayton; a daughter: Mrs. Panthia (Gary Locklear) of Pembroke; a grandson who was raised in the home: Mr. Stephen Chalmers (Vanessa) of Clayton; seven grandchildren: Nakesha Pierce (Chad), Garrick Locklear, Autumn Locklear, Wayne Bullard, Joshua Lowry, Sarah Lowry, Chloe Lowry; six great grandchildren: Noah Locklear, Niyah Locklear, Christopher Pierce, Nicholas Pierce, Kason Lowry and Tristan Lowry. Also several special nephews and nieces who gave aide during his illness and a host of relatives and friends. The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Sandy Plains United Methodist Church Services entrusted to Locklear & Son Funeral Home.
