Mr. William Ray Wilkins, 86, of Pembroke, NC was born December 3, 1936 and departed this life on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at Southeastern Hospice House in Lumberton, NC. Mr. Wilkins was preceded in death by his parents: Mrs. Cora M. Jones and Mr. Kinny Wilkins; sisters: Ms. Star Kleehammer, Mrs. Ruth Ruth and Mrs. Annette Witherow, as well as, his adopted parents: Mr. Colonel and Mrs. Rena Johnson.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday, February 26, 2023 at Harpers Ferry Baptist Church with Rev. Lawrence Garner and Pastor Horace Oxendine officiating. Burial will follow in the Lumbee Memorial Gardens.
He is survived by his extended family, beloved caregiver: Mr. Ricky Johnson (Sylvia), Mr. Anthony Johnson (Betty) and Ms. Catina Johnson. As an uncle, he is also survived by Ms. Patricia Antosiek (Niece), Mr. Edward Ruth (Nephew), Mr. Kenny Witherow (Nephew), and Mr. Freddie Witherow (Nephew) all of Michigan, and a special niece, Ms. Hope Johnson of the home; as well as a host of relatives, friends, and church family.
He was a faithful, member of Harper’s Ferry Baptist Church, where he served as a Children’s Minister for many years. He loved being outdoors whether it was raking leaves or sitting under the gazebo. He enjoyed singing and clowning around with family members; and he loved a good Sunday dinner. Ray loved pictures and had a ton of memories to share with all who would listen. The family would like to acknowledge Ms. Melissa, who served as his caregiver for the last few months of his life.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Sunday, February 26, 2023 at Harpers Ferry Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to: Southeastern Hospice House, 1100 Pine Run Drive, Lumberton, NC 28358 and Morganton School of the Deaf, 517 W. Fleming Drive, Morganton, NC 28655.
