Mr. Marvin “Top” Locklear, 93, of 5011 Oakgrove Church Road, Lumberton, was born October 27, 1928 and departed this life to be with our Heavenly Father on Friday, December 3, 2021. He is preceded in death by his parents: Mr. Luther H & Mrs. Mandy Jones Locklear; six brothers: Mr. Marce Locklear, Mr. Martin Locklear, Mr. Archie Locklear, Mr. Curtis Locklear, Mr. Floyd “Bo” Locklear and Mr. Tony Blue; five sisters: Ms. Margie McNeill, Ms. Zula Canady, Ms. Joyce Jones, Ms. Jannie V. Locklear and Ms. Shirley Scott.
The funeral will be Monday, December 6, 2021, at Union Chapel Community Baptist Church with the Revs: Jimmy Strickland, Brian Oxendine, Gary Locklear and Jerry McNeill officiating. Burial will follow in the Oxendine Cemetery.
Mr. Marvin is survived by his wife of 54 years: Mrs. Nellie Ruth Locklear of the home; two sons: Mr. Marcus Keith Locklear(and his wife: Judith) of Lumberton and Mr. Marvin ”Snapper” Locklear(and his wife: Sue) of Red Springs; his three special granddaughters: Hailey Elizabeth, Taylor McKenzie and Qualla Locklear, whom he loved very much; one great-grandchild: Hunter Oxendine; two sisters: Ms. Doris Chavis and Ms. Grace L. Hammonds both of Lumberton and a host of relatives and friends.
Mr. Marvin was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He gave his life to Jesus our Savior, April 9, 1972, and was the oldest member of Union Chapel Community Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Monday, December 6, 2021, at Union Chapel Community Baptist Church.
