MR. BRETTON “Brett” DEKOVA COLLINS

Mr. Bretton “Brett” DeKova Collins, 39, was born November 28, 1984 and departed this life on February 10, 2024. He is preceded in death by his father: Mr. Kenneth Lee Collins; grandparents: Mr. Robert Lee Collins and Mrs. Annie Ruth Cummings Collins; Mr. Belton Deese and Mrs. Irene Locklear Deese.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday, February 16, 2024 at St. Anna Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Donny Locklear and Dr. Jeff Collins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Brett leaves behind a loving mother: Mrs. Brenda Deese Collins; a brother: Mr. Kennan LeMark Collins (Kenda) of Pembroke; two nephews: Mr. Kaelin Bird of Pembroke and Mr. Kaede Zander Collins of Pembroke; a niece: Ms. Kesler Sage Collins of Pembroke; a great-niece: Ms. Kenlyn Grace Bird of Pembroke; and a host of extended family and friends.

Mr. Brett was a loving son, nephew, uncle and brother, who loved to game, watch TV and enjoyed culinary delights.  He was highly intelligent, read daily and constantly perused knowledge. He indulged in many disciplines, especially history, biblical studies, environmental science and political science.  Brett committed his life to being a caretaker for his father, his uncle and his mother; it’s because of this, he exemplified President Jimmy Carter’s belief when he stated, “anyone can be successful in life, regardless of natural talent or the environment within which we live. This is not based on measuring success by human competitiveness for wealth, possessions, influence, and fame, but adhering to God’s standards of truth, justice, humility, service, compassion, forgiveness, and love.” He will truly be missed.

The Family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. Friday, February 16, 2024 at St. Anna Freewill Baptist Church.
