Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One


Mr. Arnold Raye Locklear, 59, of Lumberton, departed this life on Tuesday, January 11, 2023. Mr. Raye was born on May 12, 1963, to Mr. Eberts and Mrs. Emae B. Locklear of Pembroke. He is predeceased by his parents and several aunts and uncles.

After graduating from Pembroke Senior High School in 1981, he joined the U.S. Navy enabling him to travel the world. His favorite places were San Diego, London, Maine and the Bahamas. After the Navy, he worked in many industries, including DuPont, The Robesonian, and Walmart until his retirement.

In 1992, Raye married Mrs. Laurie Oxendine and together they built a happy, love- and cat-filled home in Lumberton. He loved music and sang in various bands during his youth. He enjoyed keeping a great yard, attending concerts, going to the beach, reading Marvel comic books, wearing colorful sneakers, watching NFL football and cheering on NC State athletics.

Left to remember him with love and joy are his wife: Mrs. Laurie; his sisters: Ms.  Alice Faye Locklear and Ms. Sheila Kaye Harris; a brother: Mr. Virgil Oxendine (Robert Canida); his in-laws: Mr. Herman L. and Mrs. Loretta O. Oxendine; and innumerable aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, January 30, 2023 at Pembroke Gospel Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association or any animal rescue organization.
