Mrs. Sue Ellen Locklear Chavis Brooks

Mrs. Sue Ellen Locklear Chavis Brooks was called to her heavenly home on Monday, July 9, 2018 after more than five years of battling cancer. She resided at the family homeplace in the Mt. Airy community. Mrs. Sue leaves behind her husband of nearly 40 years: Rev. Ray Brooks; three daughters: Ms. Marri Elizabeth Brooks, Ms. Sherri LaChelle Brooks and Ms. Faith Renee Brooks; two grandsons: Ricky Jr. and Zachariah Ray. She is also survived by her sister: Mrs. Charlotte Chavis Johnson(Chris) and nephew Ryan. Of the remaining Shelby girls is Sue’s aunt Ms. Elier Locklear Revels. Raised almost like siblings, Sue leaves behind her close cousins Mr. Harry Locklear, Mr. Gene Locklear, Ms. Patricia Ann Hagans, Ms. Vernesia Bryant and Mr. Kenny Bryant as well as a host of family and friends. Sue’s Journey on this earth took her many places across the state of North Carolina where she met many people who became lasting friends. Sue’s journey also allowed her to accomplish many things. Her greatest accomplishment was earning her Bachelors of Theology from Vintage Bible College in 2014. Sue’s life on this earth was truly blessed. She enjoyed talking to her grandchildren about the love and faith she had for her heavenly father. She was a most faithful prayer partner to family and friends and she was a loving mother, spouse, sister, and grandmother. The family will receive friends from 12:30 – 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 13, 2018 at Bear Swamp Baptist Church. Funeral will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Revs: Tim Chavis, Herbert Lowry and Daylon Mooneyham officiating. Burial will follow in the Bear Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery.
