MS. GRACE R. LOCKLEAR

Ms. Grace R. Locklear, affectionately known as “Mama Grace”, 86, was born on May 6, 1938, in Pembroke, North Carolina, departed this world and entered God’s Glory on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Mama Grace was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mama Grace is survived by her six children: Mr. Cerbert (Jackie) Locklear of Lumberton, NC, Mr. Jimmy Locklear of Pembroke, NC, Mr. James Locklear of Pembroke, NC, Mr. Mitchell (Mary) Locklear of Red Springs, NC, Mr. Edward (Teena) A. Locklear of Pembroke NC, Ms. Kim (Julie) Locklear of Rockingham NC, a special nephew: Mr. Don Revels of Wakulla NC, one surviving sister and a host of grands, family, and friends. Mama Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Alfonce Locklear; her parents, Mr. Jim Locklear and Mrs. Mozella Revels; her daughter: Ms. Mitzie (Minice) Locklear, two grandchildren David Bryan Revels and James Mitchell (Bubba) Locklear, and many sisters and brothers.

She was an active member of the Green Pine Freewill Baptist Church, she spent her life serving God, volunteering, and participating in church activities. Ms. Grace’s faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she had a profound joy in serving others through her church.

All who knew Mama Grace knew her as a prayer warrior. If a need was brought to her attention, she brought it to God. She always had a kind word and used her wisdom to encourage others and lift them up.

In her retirement, Mama Grace enjoyed gardening, canning, hog killings, quilting, and spending time with her family and friends. She had a green thumb and a talent for creating beautiful quilts that her family will cherish for generations. Mama Grace was also known for her delicious home-cooked meals, which brought her family together and created cherished memories. You knew that Mama Grace always had good food and a willingness to share it.

Mama Grace will be remembered for her unwavering faith, loving and generous spirit, and dedication to her family and community. Her legacy of love and service will continue to inspire all who knew her.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2024, at Green Pine Freewill Baptist Church with the Revs: Clifford Locklear, Matthew Locklear and Leon Revels officiating.  Burial will follow in the Bear Swamp Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2024 at the church.
