On July 17, 1936 a warm and glowing spirit came to this earth. One that day Ms. Doris Barton was born as the third oldest of twelve children to Mr. Wardell and Mrs. Lizzie Barton.
On Friday, February 10, 2023, the body which carried this spirit finished its course in this life. Ms. Barton of 9973 US Hwy 74 W Maxton, NC departed this life at home surrounded by her family. Preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Ms. Delores B. Dial, Ms. Sally B. Bullard, Ms. Wendy A. Barton; brothers: Mr. Royal “Pap” Barton, Mr. Paul Barton and Mr. George Lloyd.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at Bakers Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Lindbergh Chavis officiating. Burial will follow in the Barton Family Cemetery.
Ms. Barton is survived by one son: Mr. Samuel Barton (Tammy) of Maxton; three daughters: Mrs. Jenny Barton (Terry), Mrs. Karen B. Godwin (Randy) and raised Ms. Erain C. Barton all of Pembroke; sisters: Ms. Helen Locklear and Ms. Peggy Hunt of Pembroke, Ms. Mabel Locklear of Lumberton, Ms. Emma Jane Brewer of Fayetteville, Ms. Mary Ann Graham and Ms. Linda Dial both of Maxton; brothers: Mr. Wardell “Bucky” Barton, Jr. of Wagram and Mr. Beachmon Barton of Pennsylvania; grandchildren: Jeramie, Taren, Kiah, Ashton (Bryan), Cody, Kailey and Brett; great grandchildren: Chloe, Kaitlin, Candence, Zoli, Aubrey, Ryker Crue, and a host of relatives and friends.
After retiring from Charles Craft she found another love, being called Ma Doris by the children she loved to babysit: Kenda and Kaugen Hunt, Brayden Locklear, Peyton Grahem, Xander, Xoan and Xuli Brooks.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at Bakers Chapel Church.
