Mrs. Margaret Butler Chavis, 84, peacefully entered the arms of her savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday morning, July 9, 2023. She was born in Robeson County, NC on May 3, 1939, to Mr. Murdick and Mrs. Evelyn Butler.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Mr. Earl “Buddy” Butler and Mr. Woodrow “Woody” Butler; and her loving husband: Mr. Bobby Ray Chavis, Sr.
The funeral will be held 4 p.m. Friday, July 14, 2023, at Reedy Branch Baptist Church in Fairmont, NC with Revs. Hilton Woodell, James Graham and Mattheue Locklear officiating. Burial will follow in Lumbee Memorial Gardens cemetery.
She leaves behind her loving brother: Mr. Bill Butler (Sylvia) of Lumberton, NC; her beloved children: Mrs. Belinda Chavis Listoe (Kent) of Shelby, NC, Mr. Bobby Ray Chavis, Jr. (Sandy) of Rowland, NC, Mr. Charles Allen Chavis (Angela) of Pembroke, NC, Mrs. Christel Chavis Parker (Jamie) of Lumberton, NC, Ms. Jackie Kuhn of Rowland, NC and Ms. Mary Ann McCormick of Rowland, NC. Her cherished grandchildren: Brice Ray of Boston, MA, Brooke Ray of Chapel Hill, NC, Courtney Chavis (Ryan) of Rowland, NC, Caroline Listoe Steed (Riley) of Nashville, TN, Brad Ray of Rowland, NC, Christian Listoe (Jessie) of Shelby, NC, Brianne Ray of Rowland, NC, Jared Parker (Sarah) of Lumberton, NC, Ashton Chavis of Pembroke, NC, Brady Jacobs of Holden Beach, NC, Zachary Parker (Madilyn) of Lumberton, NC, Connor Chavis of Pembroke, NC, Andrea Chavis of Pembroke, NC and Bryson Parker of Lumberton, NC. Her precious great-grandchildren: Makya Scott, Josiah Ray, Asher Chavis, Axston Ray, Ellie Listoe, Walt Parker, Delilah Listoe and Hayden Steed. Her wonderful friends: Ms. Mary Scott and Ms. Dixie Champaigne, Ms. Regina Deese and a host of extended family and friends.
Her grateful children would like to acknowledge the staffs of Greenbrier Assisted Living in Fairmont, NC and Liberty Hospice in Lumberton, NC. Thank you for your loving and compassionate care of our beautiful momma. We love you all and will be forever grateful to have had you in our lives.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Reedy Branch Baptist Church in Fairmont, NC.
