Mrs. Ludalia Locklear Cummings, 92 of 4363 North Chicken Road, was born December 7, 1931 and departed this life on Thursday, November 21, 2024. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years: Mr. Roy Lacy Cummings; her parents: Mr. Murphy and Mrs. Aliefair Locklear; eight siblings (with her being the youngest); a granddaughter: Cabrina Cummings; a son-in-law: Mr. Michael Sampson and a great-grandson: Aden Locklear.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Monday, November 25, 2024 at Mt. Airy Baptist Church with Revs. Steve Strickland, Adrian Hammonds, James Kelvin Locklear and Dr. Mike Cummings officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
She is survived by daughters: Mrs. Annette Locklear (Gaston), Mrs. Vanessa Locklear (Alec), Mrs. Lavenia Sampson, Mrs. Helene Lowery (Chester), Mrs. Rena Hunt (Kenneth) and Mrs. Cletis Deese (Elwood); her sons: Mr. Lacy Cummings (Bonnie), and Mr. Frederick Cummings; eighteen grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
After many years of dedication to her family and farm, Ludalia transitioned to the Public Schools of Robeson County educating children until retirement. She was a lifelong member of Mt. Airy Baptist Church, serving in many roles; Sunday School Teacher in the Preschool Department, Girls in Action (GA) Leader, member of the WMU and Adult Ladies Choir. In her later years, she enjoyed Sunday afternoon fellowship in her home with family, friends and special entertainment (Jimmy and Timmy).
She will be deeply missed, but her legacy endures through her children, grandchildren (affectionately known as “The Lou Crew”) and great-grandchildren, who will always cherish her memory, her love for them, and her fondness for “Tops Snuff.”
The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. Monday, November 25, 2024 at Mt. Airy Baptist Church.
