She departed this life on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at Glenflora in Lumberton. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years: Mr. Charlie F. The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday, September 24, 2023 at Mt. Airy Baptist Church and burial will follow.
Clella believed in a strong work ethic and committed 25+ years of service and retired from Sara Lee Hosiery. Serving her church and community were equally important and this dedication was lived out as an active member at Mt. Airy Baptist Church of Pembroke, N.C. She also served in various capacities within the Burnt Swamp Association. Her love language was that of giving and she combined that with a passion for sewing. Many members of her family and friends are the recipients of this expression with adult and baby blankets as prized possessions. Clella was a joy to be around due in great part to her peaceful and gentle nature and the humbleness she displayed. She loved to reminisce, and talk about her life history, love for Jesus, family, and friends.
In the days ahead, her life well-lived will be reflected on and serve as a source of encouragement to finish the race strong by those who remain. She is survived by her children: Mrs. Rose Marie Leonard (Carl) of Salem, VA, Mrs. Gloria Jones (Jerry), Mr. David Fairel Locklear (Rita), Ms. Joyce Ramona Ward, and Mrs. Amy Hunt (Anthony) all of Pembroke, NC; 11 grandchildren: Lori Oxendine (Kevin), Garry Dean Chavis, Dwayne Chavis (Christy), Ryan Locklear (Terryn), Addison Grace Hunt, and Savannah Faith Hunt all of Pembroke, NC; Gina Colman (Tim) of Roanoke, VA; Rhonda Collins (Marcus) of Durham, NC; Keisha LaPradd (Shannon) of Buchanan, VA; Charles Robert Jones (Tabitha) of St. Pauls, NC; and Austin Ray Hunt of Laurinburg, NC; 15 great-grandchildren: Dylan Nakhle, Jakob Nakhle, Austin Oxendine, Justus Jones, Luke Jones, Kaden Revels Parsons, Ryder Fairel Locklear, Rynlee Blake Locklear, Rhyah Lachelle Locklear, Justin Chavis, Christian Chavis, Courtney Chavis, Jules Chavis, Julious Chavis and Jamison Ray Hunt; 3 great-great grandchildren: Paisley Eleanor Maynor, Torrey Elise McKoy, and Presleigh Kate Chavis.
