MR. VERNON LOCKLEAR

Mr. Vernon Locklear, 69, was born on April 14, 1953 and departed his earthly home on Wednesday. March 15, 2023 at Morrison Manor surrounded by his family.  He was preceded in death by his parents: Mr. Jimmy Locklear and Mrs. Zettie Mae Jones Locklear; sisters: Mrs. Mable Locklear and Ms. Rena Locklear and a brother: Mr. Herbert Locklear.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday, March 19, 2023, at St. Anna Freewill Baptist Church with the Revs: Tony Miller and Chester Chavis officiating. Burial will follow in the Lowery Family Cemetery.

He was born 7th child of 13 siblings; the remainder of his siblings: Mr. Randolph Locklear(Mattie) of Rowland, Ms. Andoris Dial of Pembroke, Mrs. Pandora Jacobs(Willie) of Red Springs, Mr. Adolph Locklear(Diane) of Pembroke, Ms. Gwendolyn Allen, Ms. Antoinette Locklear, Mr. Herman Locklear, Mr. Ricky Locklear(Patsy) and Mr. Victor Locklear(Shelia) all of Pembroke. He also leaves behind Ms. Kay Lowery, a long-time confidant, caregiver and companion of 47 years; also a brother-in-law; Mr. Leonard Locklear and a great number of wonderful nieces and nephews, who loved and cared for him very much.

Mr. Vernon started his young early life working in the job corps, he participated in the government of schools training, he was a soldier and finally for many years one of the best sheetrock hangers and finishers this county has ever produced. He loved riding his bicycle, which was mainly used for transportation, but he also used it to go and visit with neighborhood friends and extended family and the sight of him coming down the road will be greatly missed.

Mr. Vernon was a man that was difficult to deal with at times, it was usually his way or the highway. He loved to show his hard side most of the time, but I want to let everyone to know that there was a soft side there. He had a good heart and before his health started failing, he would help with anything and help anyone that needed it.

I would like to give thanks to his family and friends for the love, care and concern, that he loved and longed for.

The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m., Sunday, March 19, 2023, at St. Anna Freewill Baptist Church.
