Van Samuel “Sam” Barton, 67, of Maxton, NC passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, in Gulfport, MS.
Sam was the owner of Southern Ceilings & Walls, Inc. and spent most of his life in the drywall business. His work took him to various parts of the country, where he met and maintained friendships with many people. He enjoyed grilling and cooking for others, having a good time with family and friends, and riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
He is survived by his beloved son, Cody Barton, Cody’s mother, Tammy Barton, siblings Jenny Barton, Karen Godwin (Randy), Helen Locklear, Emma Jean Brewer, Mabel Locklear, Peggy Hunt, Linda Dial (Maurice), Wardell “Bucky” Barton, Jr., Beachman Barton (Peggy), and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his longtime companion, Laurie Thomas, her daughters, Amber Thomas and Erika Thomas, and her 2 grandchildren.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Wardell and Lizzie Barton, mother Doris Barton, and siblings Delores Dial, Sally Bullard, Wendy Barton, Royal “Pap” Barton, Paul Barton, Mary Ann Graham, and George Lloyd.
A graveside service will take place on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the family cemetery in Maxton, NC, with interment immediately following.
