Mr. Russell W Locklear III (affectionately known as Rusty), age 53, of Lumberton, NC, entered his heavenly home on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at UNC Health Southeastern in Lumberton, NC.
Rusty was born in Lumberton, NC, on July 12, 1968. Rusty was the eldest son of Mr. Russell W Locklear Jr. and Mrs. Patsy Locklear. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Russell Webster and Elsie Locklear, and Gus and Josephine Locklear, all of Pembroke, and his in-laws, Leslie, and Ola Emanuel.
Rusty is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Katrina; his two sons, Brent and Cody Locklear of the home; his brother, Matthew Locklear (Myrtle “Cookie”) of Pembroke, NC; his sister-in-law LouAnn Emanuel of Lumberton, NC; his brothers-in-law Harry Emanuel (LaVerna) and Dwayne Emanuel (Marian) of Lumberton, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that all held a special place in his heart.
Rusty was a wonderful husband and father. Although an electrician by trade, he was skilled in many vocations developed throughout his life working on the family farm and working in a variety of industrial settings. Rusty was an avid hunter and fisherman; and for many years, hunting at Buckhead, holding the CB handle “Midnight.” Rusty was also a huge sports fan, playing many years in church softball. However, cooking for his family and friends was his specialty. He easily earned the title of “The Grillmaster,” but his talents were not limited to his grill. Rusty was a farmer at heart, and he was very proud of the family farm.
Before his passing, Rusty made his peace with God. We’re confident that he is rejoicing in Heaven with God, his family and friends that have gone on before him. And for that we will be forever thankful and comforted knowing that he is finally “home”.
The funeral will be 4 p.m. Sunday, September 26, 2021, at Mt. Airy Baptist Church with the Revs: James Kelvin Locklear, Dr. Mike Cummings, Adrian Hammonds and Steve Strickland officiating. Burial will follow in the Locklear Family Cemetery.
