Mr. James Hunt, Jr., 85, of Lizzie Bell Drive, Lumberton, NC entered his Heavenly home, Saturday, March 28, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 8, 1940 to the late Mr. Galloway Hunt and Mrs. Ronie Lee Locklear Hunt. He is also preceded in death by a brother: Mr. James Harvey Hunt; daughter: Tracie Lynn Hunt; granddaughter: Brittany Hunt; grandson: Braylon Hunt and wife: Ms. Evelyn Carter Hunt.
He is survived by a son: Mr. Johnny Ray Hunt(Paula); a daughter: Mrs. Demetrics Hunt Oxendine(Eric); grandsons: Cody Zabitosky and Cameron Brayboy; granddaughters: Christna Chavis and Cayla Chavis; nine great-grandchildren; a special friend: Ms. Oneida Odom and a host of cousins, friends and loved ones.
Mr. Hunt graduated from Pembroke High School in 1959 and became an electrician and worked both residential and commercial wiring. He met lots of people on and off the jobs. He maintained a close friendship with several people he met throughout his career. He loved his family, his church family, gospel music, singing, an occasional western, sitting on his porch and enjoying God’s creations and above all..his Lord and Savior.
Whenever stormy weather would arise or problems within his family, he would always sit back, say a prayer and say, “God is in control.” He will be greatly missed.
A funeral service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at the Mt. Airy Baptist Church with the Revs: Kelvin Locklear, Dr. Mike Cummings, Steve Strickland and Adrian Hammonds officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Airy Church Cemetery. A viewing will he held one hour prior to services at the church.
