Mr. Hugh “Buddy” Oxendine, 81, of the Union Chapel community, NC was born July 18, 1943 and departed this life on Monday, July 7, 2025. Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, James Sanford and Docia Oxendine, and siblings James Herman, Shirley, Reynolds, Atlas, Grace, Aubry, Drace, Harold, Wendell, and Caroline. He is survived by siblings: Juanita, Eunice, Elaine, Linda Sue, and Crawford. He was a loving brother to his 15 siblings, a father figure to his nieces and nephews, and a dear friend to many.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2025 at Burnt Swamp Baptist Church with Revs. Keith Long, Jimmy Strickland and Graylen Mitchell officiating. Entombment will follow in the church cemetery.
Buddy was employed in various electrical roles including as a first-class linesman with CW Wright in Norfolk, VA and as a HVAC technician with Oxendine Heating and Air.
Buddy was a devout Christian and devoted member of Burnt Swamp Baptist Church. He valued hard work and the value of using his hands in carpentry, farming, and raising cattle – he was a jack-of-all trades. He had a zeal for his family, his church family, and his community. In his early years, he was a generous provider to his family and younger siblings, caring for their financial needs. He enjoyed growing produce that he distributed on the same day as it was harvested, providing food throughout the community. He loved antiquing and shopping for deals, avidly collecting coins, and had an extensive travel history. He lived a full life and was abundantly blessed by God through his love for others.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Sunday. July 13, 2025 at Burnt Swamp Baptist Church.
