Mr. Grover Cleveland Chavis, 85, of 494 Philadelphus Road, Pembroke, NC passed to heaven on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at Scotland Memorial Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ulysses Preston and Lena Oxendine Chavis, his wife, Bobby Jean Lowery Chavis, his daughter, Illya Chavis Lindsey, a grandson Talon Boyd Lindsey, sisters Garnetta Chavis, Muriel Hunt, Marcelene Johnson; brothers Donald A Chavis, Sylvester Chavis, Kansas, and Earl B. Chavis, Florence SC.
The funeral will be 3:00 p.m., Friday, January 28, 2022 at Bear Swamp Baptist Chruch with Revs. Dr Tim Chavis, Lindbergh Chavis, Hubbard Lowery, Steven L Jacobs officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his daughters, Yonnah Dawn Chavis Locklear and Espadonsa Lowry Jacobs, son Joshua Yakima. Chavis, grandsons Jacoby Chavis, Tristan Chavis, Steve Jacobs, granddaughter Meka Jacobs and four great grandchildren, Jaylen, Nolan, Jeston and Lilyana. His brothers Freddie L. Chavis of Lumberton, Rev. James Lindbergh Chavis, sisters Vilena Locklear, Eutawville, SC, Dr. Angela Chavis-Mickey, Marston, Dr. Earlena C. Lowry and Dr. Jo Ann C. Lowery, Pembroke.
Grover retired from Westpoint Stevens where he was the maintenance carpenter for over 50 years.Grover was a fellow member of Pembroke VFW where he was an active member for over 40 years. He proudly served in the Army and loved our country. Grover was a master carpenter, farmer, wine maker, breeder of horses and goats and haggler. Grover was a devout member of Bear Swamp Baptist Church where he served as a Senior Deacon and faithful servant for our Heavenly Father for over 60 years. He had a legacy of love for his beloved wife, Bobby Jean, whom he was a caring and loving husband and companion and later caregiver during her time of illness.
Grover’s life was filled with love, grace, humbleness and wisdom. He left a multitude of family, friends and acquaintances to cherish precious memories.
The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. Friday, January 28, 2022 at Bear Swamp Baptist Church
