Mr. Ernie Spencer Locklear, 76 of Maxton, was born April 26, 1945 to the late Mr. Curtis and Mrs. Delphia Deese Locklear and was called to heaven Tuesday, May 11, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother: Mr. Stanford Locklear and a sister: Mrs. Annette L. Swett.
The graveside service will be 3 p.m. Saturday, May 15, 2021 at White Hill Church Cemetery with Revs. Floyd Hunt, Israel Branch and Kelvin Locklear officiating.
“Mr. Erne” grew up in Maxton area around the farmlands of Red Banks. He graduated with honors from Pembroke High School. He furthered his education with a B.S in Math and a Masters of Education in Administration from Pembroke State University. He also received a degree from Bell and Howell School for Industrial Electronics. He devoted over 32 years of life in the field of education. He won the order of The Long Leaf Pine Award from the governor for his many years of service. He was a member of the White Hill Freewill Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee, Adult Sunday School Teacher, Superintendent and Youth Director. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age and was a dedicated servant until the day that God called him home. He was a loving husband, father, brother and friend. He believed in touch a heart, would teach the mind.
Mr. Ernie leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 54 years: Mrs. Vista Locklear of the home; one daughter: Ms. Stephanie Locklear and her fiancé Mr. David Cochrane; two sisters: Mrs. Marie Lowery (Stanford) of Pembroke, Mrs. Patricia Locklear (James William) of Rowland; one brother: Mr. Marshall Locklear (Lucille); a close buddy: Mr. Luther Lowry and a host of relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends for a walk-through visitation 1-2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Locklear & Son Funeral Home.
