Dr. Angela “Doc” Yelverton Chavis-Mickey, 72, of 421 Fox Road, Marston, NC was born May 11, 1950, and passed on Monday, August 1, 2022. Dr. Angela Mickey was preceded in death by her parents: Mr. Ulysses and Mrs. Lena Chavis; her brothers: Mr. Adrian Chavis, Mr. Earl B. Chavis, Mr. Grover Chavis and Mr. Sylvester Chavis; sisters: Ms. Garnetta Chavis, Ms. Muriel Hunt, and Ms. Marcelene Johnson.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday, August 6, 2022 at Bear Swamp Baptist Church with Revs. Tim Ritter and Rev. Lindbergh Chavis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
She is survived by her children: Ms. Chalena Mickey, Ms. Candy Mickey, and Mr. R.C. Mickey (Alisha Ellis); brothers: Mr. Freddie Chavis and Rev. Lindbergh Chavis, and sisters: Ms. Vilena Locklear, Ms. Earlena Lowry, and Ms. Jo Ann Lowery.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday, August 5, 2022 at Marston Baptist Church.
Dr. Angela Mickey graduated with degree in Mathematics from UNC Pembroke and received a Doctorate in Dental Surgery from UNC Chapel Hill. Throughout her life she worked as a teacher, chemist, and dentist, owned her own dental practice in Rowland, NC, and retired after working as a NC state employee for over 10 years. Angela volunteered with multiple groups and missionaries to provide dentistry services to underserved communities both in the United States and internationally. She was an Elder in the Lumbee tribe and worked with Title V Indian Education through the school system in her local community. Angela was an active member of Marston Baptist Church and Bear Swamp Baptist Church and loved to travel, shop, go antiquing, make shawls, sing, read, and spend time with family and friends. She was a dedicated, and fun-loving mother, sister, aunt, and cousin.
