MS. ALICE DALE LOCKLEAR

Ms. Alice Strickland Locklear, 88, of Kever Road, Maxton went to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, June 25, 2024. She was born to the late Mr. Wilson Strickland, Sr. and Mrs. Viola Oxendine Strickland on September 14, 1935.

She was preceded in death by her first husband: Mr. Jennings Bullard; her second husband: Mr. Daniel D. Locklear; her parents and siblings: Mr. Arnold Strickland, Mr. Wilson Strickland, Jr., Ms. Ruthie Jane Strickland, Mr. Steven Strickland, Mr. Rudolph Strickland, Ms. Lonia Mae Strickland and Mrs. Vietta S. Chavis.

Ms. Alice served as a pianist at numerous churches to include New Prospect Holiness Methodist Church, Bear Swamp Baptist Church and Galilee Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Pembroke State College where she obtained a degree in Special Education.  Upon graduation, she became an Educator for more than 30 years, where she impacted the lives of many children.  She delighted in being the family historian and could tell you who you were related to going back generations.  Most of all, she was a Christian and was proud of her relationship with the Lord.  She was devoted to the Church and dedicated as abundance time to the music ministry of the Church.

Ms. Alice leaves to cherish her memories:  a son: Mr. Jennings Bullard(Fran) of Pembroke; a daughter: Mrs. Julia Bullard Murr(James) of Red Springs and a step-son: Mr. Harold Locklear(Marlene) of Maxton; two brothers: Mr. Wilson Earl Strickland(Barbara) of Titusville, FL and Mr. Richard Strickland of Pembroke and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday, June 30, 2024, at Philadelphia Baptist Church with the Rev. Kent Chavis and Bro. Patrick Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in the Bullard Family Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. at the church.
