There are two types of people that we meet in life; those that we are eager to forget and those that we cannot seem to forget.
On Wednesday evening, March 22, 2023, God chose to pick Marilyn Julie Deese “Jewel” out of His garden and plant her in His eternal kingdom. Momma, your “works will bring praise in the city gate.” Proverbs 31:31
Thursday, October 13th, 1955, Mr. Berk and Mrs. Myrtle Deese became parents to their second daughter, Marilyn Julie Deese, whom they affectionately called “Jewel”. As they have run the race before her, Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents; siblings: Mr. Rudy Von Brooks, Ms. Gladys Locklear, Mr. Robert Deese, Ms. Carol A. Sampson, Ms. Cynthia B. Deese, and Ms. Wilma J. Dial.
Ms. Marilyn leaves a trove of memories with her children: Mrs. Christi (Buck), Mr. CJ (Michelle), and Mrs. Sayward (Derek); grandchildren: Kristen (Tavis), Ryan, Chay, James Phillip, Saleiya, Brayden, Miles, Caden, Isaiah, and Reco; great-grandchildren: Karlee, Kai, Chayden, and Chaylianna; brothers: Mr. Sam, Mr. Simeon “Chub”, Mr. Bill (Trenette) and Mr. Steve (Shelia); sisters: Ms. Callie Mae and Ms. Lois; the father of her children: Mr. James and a multitude of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Marilyn shared a love and adoration for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and their many friends beyond compare. She would host parties for any occasion and invite the world. There was no person unwelcomed in her home and she was lovingly referred to as “Ma”. Marilyn enjoyed shopping at Ross, traveling, beach trips with her children, Hamburger Joe’s naked wings with ranch, Village Inn deluxe seafood, sharing her testimony with thousands on Facebook, spending time with her family and her church family.
Momma never met a stranger and would always strike up a conversation that would end with a hug and an “I Love You”. Love is a verb; an action word. Momma knew how to love like Christ.
We invite you to celebrate with us on March 25th, 2023, viewing beginning at 5 and funeral at 6 at Prospect United Methodist Church, 3929 Missouri Rd, Maxton, NC 28364. Burial services will be private.

We extend our prayers to the family. Sister Marilyn (aka my KMART Angel) was simply a special lady to me and a very special lady in the kingdom. Wow full of love and compassion!
There are so many things that I could say. So many emotions, so many things, so many … Momma, how in the world do we live without you? 💔 How in the world do we go on? No matter how much you prepared us for, you never prepared us to live without you. You only showed us how to live with you again. Lord, I ask that you hold me tight, give me strength to face each day, and send your Holy Spirit to comfort us always. There’s no way to live without you, without knowing how to live with HIM. I LOVE YOU and miss you so much. I will see you again. ❤️
I express my most sincere condolences to the family and friends of Ms. Marilyn Deese. May God give you comfort and peace to help ease the pain of your loss.
Sincerely,
