MRS. IRIS MAYNOR LOCKLEAR

MRS. IRIS MAYNOR LOCKLEAR

Mrs. Iris Maynor Locklear (77), of Fayetteville, NC, was born on February 28, 1945, and departed this life for her heavenly home on July 29, 2022. She was the daughter of the late Reverend Roy Willie and Lela Maynor of Pembroke, NC.  She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Louise Locklear, Sandra Warriax, Freddie Maynor, and Roy Maynor, Jr.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Holland Locklear, and her three children: Billy Jo Maynor (Priscilla) of Holly Springs, NC; Michael McCartney of Laurinburg, NC; and Kimberly Taylor (Craig) of Charlotte, NC.  Iris was blessed to call Shawn Locklear (Amy) of Prattville, AL, and Timothy Locklear (deceased) her sons for 44 years. Her surviving siblings are Geri Fisk (George), Bobby Maynor (Arleen), Joyce Malcolm (Dalton, deceased), and Tommy Maynor (Betty) all of Pembroke. Iris loved spending time with her siblings, whether it was eating out, visiting at each other’s houses or annual weekend trips to the beach. She loved spending time with Jan Ault, her closest friend who was like a sister, and her family.  She enjoyed reading and shopping, but her greatest joy was her grandchildren, Michael Lee McCartney, Patrick McCartney, Christina Mattison, Aaron Locklear, Tim Buckster McIntyre, Ryne Maynor, Owen Taylor, Lauren Taylor, and Aaron Taylor.  She could always be found cheering them on in all their various school-related, sporting, and extracurricular activities. She was blessed to have 11 great grandchildren, as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Iris earned her B.A. in Physical Education at Pembroke State University. She was employed with Cumberland County Schools as a P.E. teacher for 29 years.  She loved teaching and her students, so it is befitting that she was awarded Teacher of the Year twice during her professional tenure.  Iris was a member of Brush Arbor Christian Fellowship Church, and we know because of her unwavering faith in Christ as her Lord and Savior, she is now at rest, and healed, in her eternal home.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at Brush Arbor Christian Fellowship Church at 401 Normal Street, Pembroke, NC (which is located temporarily at the PAWSS Campus). Burial will follow at Lumbee Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. Thursday, August 4, 2022, at the church.

Jay and I never had the privilege of meeting your beloved Iris, but Lauren often spoke so fondly of her and we came to know what a wonderful person she was and how deeply she will be missed. No words could ever take away the hurt you’re all feeling, but we pray that each of you feels the presence of our God of comfort. Rev. 21:4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

Iris was always very caring and kind to me on every occasion of our meeting. Kim I know you know how much she loved you and your family. My heart goes out to your family during this time. Please contact me if there is anything I can do for you. I will miss the love for others that was your mother. She will linger in your hearts forever more.
