Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One
MR. NICKIE LESTER LOCKLEAR

MR. NICKIE LESTER LOCKLEAR

In the spring of 1943, Mr. Bracey and Mrs. Ruby Locklear received a blessing in the midst of World War II with the birth of their second child, Mr. Nickie Lester Locklear.

A lifelong resident of Robeson County, Nickie’s wonderful childhood culminated with his graduation from Pembroke High School in 1962.

Patriotism, a sense of duty, and a love of country led Mr. Nickie to enlist in the U.S. Army. While serving in the Airborne and Special Forces, he met the love of his life, Mrs. Janie Maynor. They were subsequently married in 1966 and remained happily married for 25 years until Janie’s unfortunate passing in 1992.

Once Mr. Nickie left the military, he returned home and worked in Robeson County Tax Department for 26 years.

In his retirement, this humble and kind man enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles and going to the beach.

As Christians, we believe that the end of the physical life is also the beginning of the soul’s greatest reward. But even with this in mind, it is always a sad occasion when a community and town lose one of its favorite sons.

And when that happens, we all must grieve in whatever ways we feel are necessary to help us cope. But while we share in this experience, we also hope that Mr. Nickie’s passing will provide you plenty of opportunities to think of some of your favorite “Nickie Lester” stories.

As you might imagine, we have quite a few of our own!

We want to thank all of you for the tremendous outpouring of support we have received during this difficult time.

Mr. Nickie was preceded in death by his parents: Mr. Bracey and Ruby Locklear; his wife: Mrs. Janie Maynor; one sister: Mrs. Phyllis Ann Lowry; two brothers: Mr. Bracey Bryon Locklear and Mr. Jackie Ray Locklear.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Bakers Chapel Baptist Church with Revs: Lindbergh Chavis and Lincoln Strickland officiating. Burial will follow in the Sandcutt Cemetery.

He is survived by a daughter: Mrs. Elizabeth Joy Locklear (Carmichael) of Pembroke; son: Mr. Nick Aaron Locklear of the home; granddaughters: Nikala Elizabeth Locklear (Quinton) and Chloe Nickol Locklear; grandsons: Logan Josiah Locklear, Connor Samuel Locklear and Caden Bracey Locklear; the last surviving sibling: Mr. Christopher Duane Locklear of Hope Mills and a host of relatives and friends.
