DERRICK LOWRY

Mr. Derrick Lowry, 49, of Maxton, NC was born on November 27, 1972 and departed this life to move on to his heavenly home on July 23, 2022. He was born in Scotland County to Mrs. Shelia Jones and the late Mr. Millard Lowry. Jr.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Friday, July 29, 2022 at Berea Baptist Church with Revs. Chris Hunt and Manny Bewry officiating. Burial will follow in the McMillian Family Cemetery.

In 1992 Mr. Derrick joined the U.S. Army and served a four-year term. Upon returning home, he became employed with Fleetwood Homes. He later started working with the Coastal Gem Stone, Incorporation, where he worked for more than 15 years. Mostly recently, he was employed with the Robeson County Detention Center. He enjoyed his jobs and spending time with his co-workers.

As an active lover in sports, Mr. Derrick enjoyed playing, coaching and watching various sports. His service, talent and contributions to the sports world led to his induction into the James Gang Hall of Fame.

Mr. Derrick was preceded in death by his father: Mr. Millard Lowry, Jr.; grandmothers: Ms. Ella Jones and Ms. Reda McMillian; grandfather: Mr. L.J. Jones. Left to continue his story and share his legacy, Mr. Derrick is survived by his wife: Mrs. Tara Kay Locklear Lowry; one daughter: Ms. Erika Brooke Locklear of Pembroke, NC; two sons: Mr. Derrick “DJ” Lowry and Mr. Marcus Landon Lowry of the Prospect Community; his mother: Ms. Shelia Jones of the Prospect Community; a brother: Mr. Tyler Lowry (Molly) of Charlotte, NC; two sisters: Ms. Lauren Lowry of Charlotte, NC and Ms. Shawn Jones of Washington, NC; three aunts: Mrs. Kathleen McMillian (Don), Ms. Ramona Oxendine and Ms. Tina Jones all of the Prospect Community; uncles: Mr. Chris Boutselis (Connie), Mr. Blaine Jones (Tammie) both of Prospect, Mr. Dwayne Jones (Paula) of Pembroke, Mr. Lynn Carlos Jones and Mr. Charles “Moose” Lowry also of Prospect and a host of relatives and friends whom he loved dearly.

The Family will receive friends from 3-4 p.m. Friday, July 29, 2022 at Berea Baptist Church.
