Mrs. Marcelene “Bootie” Johnson

Mrs. Marcelene “Bootie” Johnson, 89, deaparted this life on Sunday, March 17, 2019. She was born January 5, 1930 to Mr. Ulysses P. and Mrs. Lena Oxendine Chavis. She was the third of 13 children. She is preceded in death by her husband: Mr. John Daniel Johnson; and one grandson: Christopher Jacobs; her parents; two sisters: Ms. Muriel A. Hunt and Ms. Garnetta Chavis and one brother: Mr. Sylvester Chavis. The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2019 at Bear Swamp Baptist Church with Revs: Tim Chavis and Lindbergh Chavis officiating. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery. Mrs. Marcelene “Bootie” Johnson operated a shoe repair and sale business in Pembroke, NC for over 50 years. She was loved by her family, friends, customers, and church family. “Big Ma” as she was affectionaly known by her family will be missed by all those who knew her. Mrs. Marcelene is survived by two daughters: Ms. Jennifer Cassandra Johnson of Rowland, NC and Ms. Jolene Shonedale Lowery (Courtney) of Hope Mills, NC; a granddaughter of the home: Racheal L. Jacobs of the home; a grandson: Caleb J. Jacobs (Heather) of Lumberton, NC; two great-grandsons: Xander G. Oxendine and Dawson R. Lowery of Hope Mills, NC; four sisters: Ms. Vilena C. Locklear of Eutawville, SC, Ms. Earlena C. Lowry, Mrs. Jo Ann C. Chavis Lowery (John L) and Ms. Angela Chavis Mickey all of Pembroke, NC; ); five brothers: Mr. Freddie L. Chavis (Pandora) OF Lumberton, NC, Mr. Earl Brennon Chavis of Florence, SC, Mr. Grover C. Chavis Mr. Donald A. Chavis (Diane) and Rev. James Lindbergh Chavis all of Pembroke, NC and a host of relatives and friends. The family will receive friends from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2019 at Bear Swamp Baptist Church.
