Mrs. Thedis R. Wilkins, 90, daughter of Mr. Benjamin Franklin “Olie” Johnson and Mrs. Jertie Mae McNeil Johnson of 109 Shawn F. Rd., Pembroke was born December 18, 1924 and departed this life on October 17, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband: Mr. Daniel W. Wilkins; two sons: Mr. Senowskey ‘Coskie” Wilkins and Mr. Daniel Wilkins Jr.; five brothers and two sisters. She devoted her life to her family, her church family, friends and community – selflessly.
The funeral will be conducted 4:00 p.m. Thursday, October 22, 2015, at Sandy Plains United Methodist Church with the Revs: Prentis Harris III and Bob Mangum officiating. Burial will follow in the Lumbee Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Thedis is survived by four sons: Mr. Roger Wilkins of the home, Mr. David Wilkins of Minneapolis, Minn., Mr. Michael Wilkins of Pembroke, Mr. Craig Wilkins of Atlanta, Ga.; one step-son: Mr. Arnold Locklear of Huntersville, NC; one daughter: Ms. Deb Wilkins of Hamlet, NC; sixteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and many relatives and friends.
Mrs. Thedis will be remembered for her faithfulness and her love for “everybody”. We will remember her for a few of her signature dishes: collards and chow-chow, fried chicken and biscuits, and banana puddin’. But, above all, we will remember her love and witness to her Savior and Lord who kept her and sometimes carried her through many, many hard trials.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at Locklear & Son Funeral Home.
