Mrs. Ethel Oxendine Revels grew up in Pembroke and lived there all her life. Mrs. Revels lived to be 100 years old the 9th of August 2017. She was called to her heavenly home on Monday, February 5, 2018 surrounded by the love and comfort of her family. She is preceded in death by her parents: Mr. Raz Lowery and Mrs. Pricella Jacobs; her half sister: Mrs. Addie Jones; grandchild: Denna Locklear; a foster family that raised her: Mr. John W. Oxendine and Mrs. Sophronie Oxendine; a host of foster brothers and sisters and also her half brothers and sisters.
The funeral will be 1:00 p.m. Sunday, February 11, 2018, at Bear Swamp Baptist Church with the Revs: Dr. Tim Chavis and Michael Hamm officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Revels is survived by seven children: Mrs. Joy R Gurley (Owen) of Parkton, NC, Ms. Annie R. Plasterer (Wilford) of Myrtle Beach, SC., Mr. Henry Jr. Revels (Delma) of Reaford, NC., Ms. Shelby R. Blachard of Raleigh, NC., Mr. Therly Revels (Freida) of Pasadena MD., Mrs. Mae R. Swink (Bill) of Hope Mills, NC., Ms. Caverlean Locklear of Atlantic Beach SC.; 24 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-great-grandchildren; her church family; and a host of relatives and friends.
Mrs. Revels attended Bear Swamp Church and was a valued member and sang with the choir for over 65 years. She helped get a quilting bee started at the church. They quilted lap quilts for patients that needed them at nursing homes, baby quilts or anything that was needed. She invested a lot into her church. It bought such joy into her life and she just loved her church family and they loved her as well. She was the oldest living member. Mrs. Revels loved to go fishing and she always had a friend that would be ready to go with her. They would load up her car and head to Cherry Grove beach SC. Mrs. Revels lived life to the fullest. She lived and worked on the farm for about forty years. When she left the farm she started working at the poultry plant in Lumberton and she worked there for about 15 years then went to work at Converse. Converse is where she retired at the age of 62.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, February 10, 2018, at Locklear & Son Funeral Home.
