Mr. Billy Lowry, Jr., 84, of 540 Cornith Road, Pembroke, departed this life on Thursday, September 17, 2015, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton, NC, after a lengthy illness. Born on July 25, 1931 to the late Mr. Billy & Mrs. Flora Locklear Lowry, he was the youngest of nine children. Prior to his retirement in 1993, he served as the public works superintendent for the town of Pembroke and had earlier served on the Town Police Department, later operating his business of Lowry’s Road Building and Grading. He loved his community, never meeting a stranger and stood ready to help where needed.
Mr. Billy was humbled by his good works and the successes of his family. He especially loved his children and grandchildren. His late wife; Mrs. Minnie Flowers meant everything to him, as he often referred to her as the ‘love of his life’-she was his ‘rock’; he sadly lost her after 63 years of marriage, in 2013. He was also preceded in death by three brothers: Mr. Welton, Mr. Woodrow and Mr. William Henry Lowry; four sisters: Ms. Velma, Ms. Fannie Mae, Ms. Annie and Ms. Azell and a grandson: Mr. B. William Lowry.
The funeral will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 20, 2015, at Berea Baptist Church with the Rev. Chris Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in the Lumbee Memorial Gardens.
Surviving are three sons: Mr. Mitchell Lowry(Rosalind), Mr. Billy Dexter Lowry and Mr. Charles F. (Ricky) Lowry(Cindy); three daughters: Mrs. Patricia (Pat) Chavis(Kenneth), Ms. Pamela L. Locklear and Mrs. Deana J. Worriax all of Pembroke; a sister: Mrs. Vester Mae Revels; eleven grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren; special caregivers: Ms. Diane F. Chavis, Ms. Macy Jones, Ms. Janice Locklear, Ms. Carlene Locklear and Ms. Brigitte Hammonds; special friends: Mr. Marshall Bullard, Mr. Doug Dial, Ms. Vera Freeman and Ms. Virginia Locklear and a host of relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, September 19, 2015, at Locklear & Son Funeral Home.
