She is preceded in death by her grandparents: Mr. & Mrs. Murphy Locklear and Ms. Donnie Locklear; her father: Mr. Archie R. Locklear; and her grandchildren: Baby Boy & Girl Locklear and Master Boss Elliott Locklear.

The funeral will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 27, 2013, at Mt. Airy Baptist Church with the Revs: Steve Strickland, Michael Cummings, and Adrian Hammonds officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Airy Church cemetery. Viewing will be one hour prior to services.

Mrs. Locklear is survived by her husband of 47 years: Mr. Laymon Poe Locklear of the home; her mother: Mrs. Fairella Locklear of Lumberton; three children: Mr. Dwight (Victoria) Locklear of Owings, MD, Mrs. Kimberly Lynn (Boss) Locklear of Pembroke, and Mr. Neal Royce (Ursulla) Locklear of Laurinburg; three sisters: Ms. Minnie Pearl Locklear and Mrs. Joann (Kenneth) Demery  both of Pembroke, and Mrs. Magenell (Arnold) Oxendine of Lumberton; four brothers: Mr. Archie Ray (Carolyn) Locklear of Warren, MI, Mr. Roger Locklear of Charlotte, NC, Mr. Ronald (Lori) Locklear of Pembroke, and Mr. Donald (Linda) Locklear of Lumberton; three gorgeous granddaughters: Bethany Elyse, Abigail Grace, and Madelyn Faith Locklear; three boys she helped nurture and love: Joseph Allen and Jacobi Quinn McGirt, and Peyton Graham; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends she cherished dearly.

Mrs. Evelyn was a homemaker that took great pride in keeping everything “tidy” and in order.  She made sure her children knew the value of hard work and giving your all when you wanted to achieve something.  She loved her parents, brothers and especially her sisters unconditionally and looked forward to seeing and talking to them during her sickness everyday.  She loved to visit in the community and was well known for keeping a record of events for the Mt. Airy community. Earth’s loss has definitely been Heaven’s gain and as she told her cousin the morning before she died “It is well!”

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, October 26, 2013, at Locklear & Son Funeral Home.
