Mrs. Daphina Brooks Locklear, 85, of 534 Albert Rd. Pembroke, was born July 2, 1928 and departed this life for her eternal home on August 29, 2012, surrounded by family and friends. She was the widow of Mr. Otis Locklear and was preceded in death by her daughter: Ms. Macy Godwin.
Sister Daph was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many and loved by all who knew her. Our mother was a dedicated homemaker and a faithful provider for many decades, a virtuous woman was she. Grandma was a loyal member of Green Pine Freewill Baptist Church and was a revered woman of God; her musical ministry was a blessing to many.
The funeral will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 2, 2012 at Bear Swamp Baptist Church with the Revs: Bobby D. Locklear, Jackson Locklear, Cliff Locklear and Bro. Ricky Chavis officiating. Burial will follow in Bear Swamp Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Locklear was blessed with a loving family; four daughters: Mrs. Velenda Morgan (Jack) of Rennert, Mrs. Diane Locklear (Mitchell) of Red Springs, Mrs. Denise L. Hunt (Damon) of Fairmont, and Ms. Phyllis Locklear of the home; five sons: Mr. Phillip Ray Locklear, Mr. Alan Kendall Locklear, Mr. Perry Marcus Locklear, Mr. Phillip Ray “Otis” Locklear Jr. (Becky) all of Pembroke, and Mr. Thaniel Locklear (Brenda) of Red Springs and a welcomed son: Mr. Welton Locklear of Pembroke; seven brothers: Dr. Martin Brooks, Mr. Paul Brooks, Mr. Ronald Brook, Mr. Howard Brooks, Mr. Verl Brooks, Rev. Ray Brooks and Dr. David Brooks; two sisters: Mrs. Joyce Brooks and Mrs. Bernice Lowery; 30 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; as well as a host of loving family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Locklear & Son Funeral Home.
