Mrs. Thelma Secrest Kay, 95, of 121 Bluewing Lane Mooresville, NC, took her journey home on Sunday, September 15, 2013. She was born to the late Mr. Charles “Matt” and Mrs. Sena “Sis” Secrest in Mt. Airy, NC, on March 22, 1918. She loved to quilt, bake, decorate cakes, and take trips with her family, friends, and church family.
She is preceded in death by her late loving husband: Mr.Elmer Watson Kay; seven sisters: Mrs. Sarah Lovill, Mrs. Hattie Lovill, Mrs. Linda Anderson, Mrs. Evelyn Hudson, Mrs. Carrie Dixon, Ms. Gladys Secrest, and Ms. Bernice Secrest; two brothers: Mr. Harles Secrest and Mr. Monroe Secrest.
The funeral will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 18, 2013, at Cavin Cook Funeral Home in Mooresville with the Rev. Dr. Robert Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
She leaves behind cherished memories to two wonderful children: a son, Mr. Dexter Kay (Daughter-In-Law Ginny) of Mooresville, NC and a daughter, Mrs. Juanita Kay Smith (Son-In-Law John) of Rowland, NC; five grandchildren: Mr. Jamie Kay of Mooresville, NC, Mrs. Kim Locklear (Terry) of Loganville, GA, Mrs. Diana Kay Locklear (Lance) of Rowland, NC, Mrs. Jennifer Hartis (Cameron) of Charlotte, NC, Mrs. Monique Hamel (Barry) of Charlotte, NC; nine great-grandchildren: Haley, Lakoda, Tierra, Sequoia, Bailey, Mason, Seth, Logan, and Kaylyn; and a host of relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, September 17, 2013, at Locklear & Son Funeral Home.
