Mr. Ben Johnson, 58 of Pembroke, NC, departed this life on Friday, September 11, 2015 at his home. Mr. Johnson was born August 9, 1957, to Mr. Leroy and Mrs. Martha Johnson in rural Pembroke, NC. He was skilled in hanging and finishing drywall. His career in construction ended after an on-the-job injury.
Ben could be heard giving his testimony of faith at Riverside Holiness Methodist Memorial Church. His testimony was one of leaving “substance use” behind and finding his salvation of eternal life. He enjoyed reading the Bible, singing in the church choir, and fellowship with his faith community at Riverside. He was an avid NASCAR race fan with Dale Earnhardt, Jr. being his favorite driver; he loved old western movies and classic television shows. He adored his grandchildren and family. Ben was kind, gentle, honest, humble, thankful for acts of kindness, routinely ended conversations with an “I love you”, and had a “heart of gold” that will set well with Heaven’s “streets of gold”.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Martha Lee Oxendine Johnson; a brother, Ralph Johnson; an infant sister, Vickie Jean Johnson; and two nephews: Jeffrey Lynn Johnson and Timothy Johnson.
The funeral will be Tuesday, September 15, 2015, at 2:00 P.M. at Riverside Holiness Methodist Church.
He is survived by a daughter, Kristin Deanna Johnson Blackburn (John) of Lumberton, NC; three grandchildren: Nathaniel John Leroy, Nakydon Christian and Natalie Blackburn; two brothers: Kenneth Johnson and William Henry Johnson (Julia) of Pembroke, NC; four sisters: Brenda Jane Johnson Moore (William Jeffrey) of the Prospect Community, Linda Johnson and Carolyn Johnson Locklear of Pembroke, NC and Sheila Johnson PreVatte (Stephen Alan) of Lumberton, NC; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday, September 14, 2015, at Locklear & Son Funeral Home.
