Ms. Paula Kaye Hunt, 64, of Pembroke succumbed to a lengthy illness on Thursday, August 30, 2013 at Lumberton Assisted Living in Lumberton. The daughter of the late Mr. Robert Hunt and Mrs. Agnes Dial Hunt, is survived by one brother: Mr. Robert Jeffery Hunt of the home and a host of relatives and friends.
A career educator in the Alexandria Virginia Public Schools until her retirement, Paula enjoyed renewing friendships with family and classmates upon her relocation to her family home in Pembroke. She continued to take an interest in the education and accomplishments of her young cousins and maintained communications with her professional colleagues in Virginia.
As a professional educator Paula was also a role model to the young cousins, many of whom have followed her professionalism in their varied careers. She patterned her role from her mother and father in “being there” for them when they needed a younger point of view and when they were making educational and career decisions. She was a mentor in professional, personal and career decisions for family cousins.
Upon retirement and after her illness forced her to seek assisted living, Paula continued to enjoy time with family and friends and especially her classmates who frequently helped her celebrate birthdays, Christmas and special luncheons.
Paula has brought new joy to her Mother and Father and has joined them in another stage of life. She has left a legacy of professionalism, love, special care and respect for family and friends. She has “crossed the bar” but she has left her mark on the lives of those she taught, her family and her extended family of friends and loved ones.
Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, September 1, 2013, at Locklear & Son Funeral Home in Pembroke. Final rites will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 2, 2013, at First United Methodist Church with the Revs: Michael Elliott and Robert Mangum officiating. Interment will follow in the Dial Family Cemetery.
