Ms. Muriel Chavis Hunt, 82, of 166 Randall Drive, was born May 1, 1928 and died Friday, January 7, 2011 at her home. She was preceded in death by her parents: Mr. Ulysses & Mrs. Lena Oxendine Chavis; her husband: Mr. Douglas C. Hunt, Sr.; a brother: Mr. Sylvester Chavis; a grandson: Mr. James F. Oxendine; a great-grandson: Master James Oxendine, Jr. and a great-granddaughter: Miss Olivia Oxendine.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all. She loved being at the Shoe Shop located in Pembroke; talking to friends, sewing and seek-n-find puzzles. She was a faithful member of Bear Swamp Baptist Church for more than 30 years.
The funeral will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Thursday, January 13, 2011, at Bear Swamp Baptist Church with the Revs: Timmie Chavis, Lindbergh Chavis and Jerry McNeill officiating. Burial will follow in the Bear Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery.
Surviving are five sons: Mr. Elton “Keith” Jacobs of the home, Mr. Douglas Hunt, Jr., Mr. Bryon “Sam” Oxendine, Mr. Preston “Kip” Hunt and wife: Mrs. Delora all of Pembroke and Mr. Edward Hunt of Lumber Bridge; five daughters: Mrs. Carolena Oxendine and husband: Mr. Buck of Lumberton, Ms. Ann Hunt of Pembroke, Ms. Charlene Jacobs, Ms. Kim Hunt both of Planfield, NJ and Ms. Veronica Hunt of the home; five sisters: Mrs. Marcelene Johnson, Dr. Earlena Lowry, Dr. Joann Lowery and husband: Mr. John all of Pembroke, Mrs. Vilena Locklear and husband: Mr. Alex of Holly Hill, SC and Dr. Angela C. Mickey of Marston, NC; five brothers: Mr. Freddie Chavis and wife: Mrs. Pandora of Lumberton, Mr. Earl “Doodle” Chavis and wife: Mrs. Becky of Florence, SC, Mr. Grover Chavis and wife: Mrs. Bobbie, Mr. Donald Adrian Chavis and wife: Mrs. Diane and Rev. Lindbergh Chavis and wife: Mrs. Myrna all of Pembroke; a special friend: Mr. Phillip Chavis of Red Springs; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild and a host of relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 12, 2011, from 7-9 p.m. at Bear Swamp Baptist Church.
