Mrs. Katherine B. Dial, 89, of 430 O’Quinn Road, Maxton, was born August 25, 1923 and went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Morrison Manor(Hospice of Scotland County). She was preceded in death by her husband: Mr. James H. Dial, Sr.; a great-grandchild: Baby R. L. Locklear; three brothers: Mr. James Hector Brooks, Mr. Eugene Brooks and Mr. Cleveland Brooks; a sister: Ms. Mary Revels and her parents: Mr. O’Quinn and Mrs. Bertha Brooks.
Mrs. Dial graduated from Pembroke State College in 1946 and was honored as the first homecoming queen at that time. She went on to teach in the Robeson County Public School System for 30 years, were she made a lasting impression upon many students, colleagues and friends. She was a devoted member of Prospect United Methodist Church and United by Faith Community Ministries. She was a dedicated member of Prospect UM Women and Evans Crossing Ladies Auxiliary. She was an inspiration to all who knew and met her. She had an undeniable love for God and exhibited this in her life to others.
The funeral service will be conducted 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 18, 2012, at Prospect United Methodist Church with the Revs: Dr. Kenneth Locklear, Bill James Locklear, Robert Mangum and Bro. Dell Harris officiating. Entombment will follow in the Prospect UMC Cemetery.
Mrs. Dial leaves to cherish her memories two sons: Mr. James H. Dial, Jr.(Cheri) of Wilmington and Mr. Dennis D. Dial of Las Vegas, NV; two daughters: Ms. Gina Q. Dial of Pembroke and Mrs. Colette D. Locklear(Glen) of the home; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters: Mrs. Evelyn B. Hood(David) of Hertford, NC and Ms. Francis Brooks of Fairmont; a brother: Mr. Gerald Brooks(Clara) of Maxton; a special lifelong friend: Ms. Lettie Mae Oxendine; twelve exceptional caregivers: Ms. Vicky Hunt, Ms. Doris Locklear, Ms. Diane Collins, Ms. Veronica Jacobs, Ms. Zola Collins, Ms. Venus Locklear, Ms. Alice Garby, Ms. Heather Collins, Ms. Daven Collins, Ms. Kaye Cummings, Ms. Nicole Clark and Ms. Faye Bullard and a host of relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday, December 17, 2012, at Locklear & Son Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
